University of Memphis – Frank L. Flautt Golf Center

Client/Owner: University of Memphis
Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Services: Geotechnical, Construction Materials Testing

Overview:
Geotechnology, Inc.* performed a geotechnical investigation for the  $1.5 million facility, located next to the Tiger Softball Complex on the University of Memphis’ Park Avenue Campus.

Details:
The facility provides the Tiger and Lady Tiger golf teams with a 400-yard diving range, teeing areas, two putting greens, a chipping green, locker rooms, video room, indoor hitting bays, and study, kitchen, and lounge areas. The golf center opened in 2009.

The geotechnical investigation included drilling, sampling, and Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) sampling. The site’s previous structures had been demolished and remnants of footing, utility lines, and debris were encountered. Recommendations were provided for the unsuitable fill.

In addition to geotechnical engineering, Geotechnology performed construction observation and materials testing services. Our field engineers and representatives provided full-time observation and testing of the construction materials. These services included observation and testing, soil and asphalt placement, backfill of utility trenches, reinforcing steel placement, and concrete sampling and testing.
