Location: Kansas City, Kansas
Services: geotechnical, materials testing
Overview:
We were responsible for the materials testing and construction observation services for a retail development of approximately 103 acres.
Details:
We recommended that the development include fill placement and foundation design. To provide uplift capacity, drilled shafts were recommended for the parking garage and portions of the two-story structures. Shallow foundations were then used to support the other structures.
The site development involved fill placements up to 40 feet and the development phase included settlement monitoring, deep storm and sanitary sewer installations and exterior pavements. We also provided full-time observation and materials testing services including:
- Observation of fill placement
- Shallow and deep foundation installation
- Concrete and reinforcing steel placement
- Structural masonry
- Steel frame
- Tilt-up wall panels
- Testing concrete, soils, asphalt, masonry and floor flatness
Over 800,000-square-feet of retail space and a three-level parking garage have been constructed on the site to date.
