University of Memphis Community Health Center
The facility will include a lecture hall and learning center, 16 classrooms, 39 laboratories, conference rooms, faculty space, work areas, and a below grade auditorium.
The 177,000 square foot facility is currently under construction and is a $60 million project.
Phase I – 2008*
A preliminary subsurface exploration was conducted to define the general subsurface conditions at the location of the proposed four-story structure: the School of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and the School of Nursing. The site is located at the southeast corner of Getwell Road and Park Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.
The preliminary subsurface exploration consisted of 6 borings, in-situ testing, and sampling and laboratory testing to assist in determining feasibility of construction at the site. Preliminary recommendations were presented for shallow, intermediate, and deep foundation types.
Phase II – 2010*
The design phase exploration focused on finalizing recommendations and findings of the preliminary report for the site. Rubble fill was encountered in the preliminary exploration and the additional borings further defined the magnitude of rubble fill from the previous buildings. Furthermore, a previously unknown steam tunnel was discovered during a review of the documents. Recommendations for floor slabs, shallow and deep foundations, backfill, pavement, and retaining walls were provided.
