At Geotechnology we’ve noticed an increased number of porous/pervious pavement design projects. Simply put, the pervious asphalt or concrete allows water to flow through the pavement and drain into the ground, thereby reducing the amount of runoff into the sewer system. This green design might allow you to earn stormwater runoff credits and offset your stormwater retention requirements and/or water and sewer utility bill. However, there are maintenance considerations, such as sweeping the pavement to keep the pores from clogging. Each new project will enhance our knowledge of this system and allow us to better assess the long-term benefits of porous pavements.
