Jason Smith is responsible for the daily scheduling of the crews, our full-time mechanic, ordering of materials and supplies, and coordinating all other drilling department operations. Jason manages the operation of the Kentucky and Ohio rigs. There are currently six daily drill crews running out of the Erlanger, Kentucky office.

Jason Smith’s Background

Jason began his drilling career at Thelen Associates, Inc. in 1996 as a Driller Helper. He first became a Drill Operator with Thelen in 1997 before being promoted to Senior Drill Operator.

Jason is a Licensed Rig Operator in Commonwealth of Kentucky (#0193-0362-04) and a Licensed Water Well Driller in the state of Indiana (#2100). In addition, he holds a host of certifications, including 40-Hr & 10-Hr OSHA Trained, with an annual 8-Hr Refresher Course

  • National Drilling Association (NDA) Subsurface Investigation Course Completion
  • ODOT Geotechnical Logging of Soil / Rock Certificate.

Jason is skilled in all facets of geotechnical drilling. His specialties include rock coring, downhole instrumentation and mud rotary. Additionally, Jason has experience with floating plant and working on steep and/or difficult terrain.

Jason’s experience with rock coring has seen him core to depths of 700 feet. In addition, Jason recently completed over 30 deep barge holes for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Lake Barkley Bridge Replacement project. These holes averaged over 200 feet from pool level and contained voids in the rock up to 30 feet in depth.

Jason is in daily contact with all Geotechnology drilling managers located in St. Louis, Kansas City, and Memphis. He has a vast amount of drilling experience and knowledge. Jason is also well known and respected throughout our local drilling community.
