Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO

Busch Stadium

Location: St. Louis, MO

Client: St. Louis Cardinals

Services: Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspections

Overview:

In 2005, Geotechnology and its team of City Design Group and TSi Engineering provided comprehensive materials testing, soils testing and ICC Special Inspections for the St. Louis Cardinals’ new baseball stadium. For this project, we managed the team for the complex design-build project. The ballpark replaced the original Busch Stadium structure, which sat immediately to the north and partially overlapped the new project site in downtown St. Louis.

Designed by HOK-Sport Venue and Event, the park provides seating for 46,000 people. The stadium also features a street-level “free viewing” area and upgraded amenities to make a ballpark outing truly enjoyable for the whole family.

Busch Stadium Project Background

As part of the over $1 million contract, the Geotechnology team performed construction materials testing and ICC special inspections of soils. We also oversaw cast-in-place and precast concrete, masonry, waterproofing, fireproofing and structural steel.

Approximately 35% of the contract is attributed to non-destructive testing by Geotechnology. Additionally, City Design Group conducted field and laboratory testing of concrete, mortar and grout. TSi performed field and laboratory testing of soils and aggregates. TSi also conducted field testing of soil and rock compaction. The team accommodated a fast-track construction schedule and completed the project under budget. The new stadium opened on time for the 2006 season.
